Summer Surprises in Kentucky
July 26th - 28th - click for flyer
I love Kentucky! It’s a beautiful state full of wonderful vacation areas, beautiful scenery, gifted artists, and talented performers. This little getaway will give you just a sample of the fantastic surprises in that area. You won’t be disappointed, I promise!
We begin our journey with a new show at the always-entertaining Renfro Valley. New this year is the evening performance of the Malt Shop Memories. Their performers will take you back in time with toe tapping tunes from the 50’s and 60’s. There will be poodle skirts, rolled up jeans, and more when all the teenagers get together at the Malt shop. Should be a lot of fun for all!
The following morning we’ll take in the beautiful Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. This historic site features over 14 original buildings from the Shaker community. They are framed by the rock-wall lined countryside and the pretty Kentucky River too. While there, we’ll enjoy a cruise on the Dixie Bell Riverboat and have lunch at the Trustees Office Dining Room. It will be a really special visit for all of us.
Now it’s time to visit Bardstown. We’ll enjoy an included dinner that night at a local restaurant, and then take in the outdoor drama, The Stephen Foster Story – The Musical. Housed at My Old Kentucky Home State Park, this show has been thrilling audiences for many years. There will be breath taking costumes, lively dances, and timeless music like Oh! Susanna, Beautiful Dreamer, Camptown Races, and more. Set in the 1850’s, it’s a lavish production of sights and sounds of a by-gone era. It’s a beautiful facility too, so it will be fun to see a show under the stars!
The following morning we’ll make a stop at the new Kentucky Artisan Center near Berea. I visited it recently, and it’s a beautiful new facility which showcases the many talented artist of the state. From there it’s on to downtown Berea where we’ll have lunch in the dining room at the historic Boone Tavern Hotel, on the Berea College Campus. It’s a lovely spot with terrific food too! Kentucky has so much to offer! Come sample it for yourself!
