Eureka Springs and Bentonville, Arkansas
September 24th - 29th 2012 - click for flyer
Before there was Branson, Missouri there was Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Located in the far northwestern corner of the state, and nestled in the Ozark Mountains, it has been attracting travelers since the early 1900’s. The downtown, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, has retained its unique Victorian charm with its lovely buildings, quaint shops, and curvy streets. It’s a wonderful town, which you are sure to enjoy. As a group we used to go there a lot, many years ago. There’s lots to do there with shows, scenery, site seeing, shopping and lots more. Add to that now, it’s very close to Bentonville, where Wal-mart was started. As Branson got more popular, I quit adding Eureka to the itinerary. Then last year I met a wonderful person from their Convention and Visitors Bureau and she brought me up to date on this fine city. I’m thinking it has everything that ya’ll like on trips – shows, shopping and site-seeing! Check out this fun filled trip and join us. It’s very affordable and you won’t be disappointed. Look at all that we’ll be doing:
- Stop in Little Rock, the state capital, and home to the William Clinton Library, with its unique design located on the banks of the Arkansas River.
- Three nights in Eureka Springs with a full breakfast each morning at the hotel
- Three great shows in town: The Great Passion Play – the outdoor drama that put the area on the map. (Hotels there even provide free blankets for you to take to the play if you’d like.) Pine Mountain Jamboree and the Ozark Mountain Hoedown – both lively shows with lots of great music, singers, dancers and great comedy
- Guided driving tour of pretty Eureka Springs with stops at the Queen Anne Mansion, and historic downtown
- Visit to Thorncrown Chapel with its 425 windows, which showcase the lovely mountains that surround the chapel. It’s one of the prettiest places I’ve ever visited.
- Visit to Christ of the Ozark Statue, a landmark to this area and very breath taking
- Visit to the original Wal-Mart, where Sam Walton started the chain; located on Main Street downtown
- Visit to the all new Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Alice Walton’s gift to the area. It just opened in November and boasts 217,000 square feet of space, including six galleries. It’s all part of private collections of Walton and others. Housed on a 120-acre site around the natural spring from which it gets its name. The building itself is beyond beautiful.
- Unique lunch stop on the way home in Tennessee
This will be a ‘new’ itinerary for us and I’m absolutely positive that you will not be disappointed in this tour. It’s going to be a whole lot of fun for everyone!!! Join us!!
